Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney

The Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 and was instrumental in the organization's early growth.

An inspiration for all Catholics, Father McGivney will be beatified and declared Blessed on October 31, 2020 in Hartford Connecticut.

Father McGivney's cause for canonization has been underway for many years and on May 26, 2020 Pope Francis approved a decree recognizing a miracle attributed to the intercession of Father McGivney.

In his biography of Father McGivney, "Parish Priest: Father McGivney and American Catholicism," author Douglas Brinkley said, "Father McGivney has a place even beyond Catholic history. The day is not far off when books of general American history will carry his name in the index, with space devoted to his influence over the development of American values and characters."
