St. Patrick Hires New Director of Religious Education
Lisa Dougherty, longtime parishioner and catechist, has recently been hired to assume the role of Director of Religious Education (DRE) at St. Patrick.
Lisa is no novice in the area of religious education. She has served the parish in a volunteer role for many years, specifically in preparing young children to receive the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Reconciliation. Lisa was mentored by her mother, Rose Taylor, and after her mother passed on, Lisa immediately followed in her footsteps. Lisa has been a teacher in the Faith Formation program for 24 years and during this time, she has been a faithful and dedicated catechist. In addition to her dedicated work as a catechist, Lisa has served as a Proclaimer of the Word, Extraordinary Minister and assistant Sacristan.
In her role as DRE, Lisa will lead our Faith Formation program which includes children from age five and up, to those in middle school and high school in the SPIRIT Youth program. Immediately she will plan and conduct a two-day Vacation Bible School in late July. Lisa will also participate in instruction of adults who attend our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) program beginning in the Fall. This program is designed to both educate Catholics as a refresher course in their faith, as well as inform those who may be interested in joining the Catholic community at St. Patrick.
Lisa looks forward to working in her new role. Not only is she focused on nurturing the faith in young people, but she also has goals for additional learning opportunities and enhancement of the faith in adults.
"I'm also interested in expanding Catholic educational opportunities for teens and adults because I believe learning and growing in the Faith throughout our life is important," Lisa said. "Our Faith should be alive and growing and shouldn't end with Confirmation. Faith Formation is a life-long endeavor with the ultimate goal of Heaven."
Lisa lives in Dora with her husband of 32 years, Raleigh. She has three children: Taylor, Gracie, and Mason. She works at Children’s of Alabama as a nurse in the Utilization Management Department.
The church family is delighted to welcome Lisa in her new role and looks forward to supporting her efforts in this important area of our parish.
