Three Scholarship Honorees Were Recognized at Sumiton Christian High School

Knights of Columbus Council 10567 is proud to announce that Nicholas Collins, Zack Collins, Dalton Morrow and Jessica Owen are the 2017 recipients of the Louis N. Muro Memorial Scholarship.

Nicholas Collins, the son of Bryant and Deidre Collins, had a 3.85 GPA at Sumiton Christian High School. He was a member of the Student Government Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish and Drama clubs, and participated in football, baseball and wrestling. At St. Patrick, Nicholas was an active member in all aspects of parish life, including the  SPIRIT Youth Group. He was an altar server and lector. Nicholas is a third generation member of Knights of Columbus Council 10567 and has participated in many community activities, including the Sumiton Canned Food Drive, distributing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to needy families, and visiting nursing homes. He will attend UAB in the fall and hopes to become a pharmacist.

Zack Collins, the son of Bryant and Deidre Collins, had a 3.75 GPA at Sumiton Christian High School. He was a member of First Priority and the Beta, Spanish and Art clubs. He was first team all-state in football (team captain), played baseball and was a member of the wrestling team. At St. Patrick, Zack was an altar server, usher and helped with Children's Liturgy. He participated in SPIRIT Youth Group and all aspects of parish life. Zack has visited nursing homes and participated in blood drives. He is a third generation member of Knights of Columbus Council 10567. Zack plans to attend West Alabama in the fall and has a career goal of becoming an actuary.

Dalton Morrow is the son of Dennis and Sherry Morrow. He graduated from Everest Academy with a 3.92 GPA. In high school Dalton participated in the archery program and the 4H Community Club. He played in the West Jefferson Youth Soccer league throughout his school years. Dalton has been an altar server for 10 years and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He has assisted with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and has done volunteer work for the Argo Volunteer Fire Department. He plans to attend Bevill State Community College in the fall and wants to major in computer science.

Jessica Owen, the daughter of Sammy and Julie Owen, had a 3.95 GPA at Sumiton Christian High School. Jessica is also the granddaughter of Louis N. Muro, the Council's Charter Grand Knight and the person whose name is on the scholarship. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. She was an Eagle ambassador and participated in the Art and Drama clubs. Jessica was a member of the varsity basketball team. A member of the SPIRIT Youth Group, Jessica has served St. Patrick as usher, lector and gift bearer. Her community volunteer involvement includes the Relay for Life, Hands on Birmingham, Catholic Center of Concern, Her Choice Women's Center, Baby Bottle Project, and the Head Over Teal event for the Laura Crandall Brown  Foundation. Jessica received the prestigious Campbell Scholarship awarded annually by Sumiton Christian High School. She plans to attend Bevill State Community College in the fall and hopes to become a nurse.
