Seven couples, including three couples who were celebrating 50 years of marriage, renewed their wedding vows during a ceremony at St. Patrick on Sunday, September 18.
The Renewal of Wedding Vows is sponsored annually by Knights of Columbus Council 10567 as a way to celebrate marriage and family life.
The ceremony took place during the 10 a.m. Mass and was performed by Father Vernon Huguley, St. Patrick pastor and Council 10567 Chaplain. Bishop Joseph A. Durick Fourth Degree Assembly 2399 was present with an Honor Guard during Mass to honor the married couples. The Ladies Auxiliary set up and served everyone at a nice reception after Mass, a reception that included delicious wedding cakes baked by our own Father Vernon.
Renewing their vows were Tom and Joan Marks (50 years); Mike and Sherrell Cochrane (50 years); Bryant and Vita Collins (50 years); Don and Patsy Byrd (40 years); Clay and Pat Reece (40 years); Fred and Irene Deason (40 years); and Scott and Joanna Hamela (25 years).
"The Renewal of Wedding Vows is easily the most popular program we do every year," Council 10567 Family Director Larry Cannon said. "The purpose of the program is to show everyone in this day and time that marriage can survive and to show examples of great couples who exhibit the true values of Catholic family life."
