On Thursday evening, August 23, the League of St. Michael the Archangel, a boy's club for priestly vocations met in the St. Joseph Parish Hall. The meeting was attended by thirteen boys, seven dads, and Fr. Bean, the spiritual director for the group. The evening began in typical St. Patrick fashion...with food. Dinner was provided by the parish and not a single scrap was left after the boys had their fill!
Fr. Bean provided a spiritual talk focusing on the priest as one who forgives sin in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and makes present the Body and Blood of Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The talk shifted into a discussion of the "miracle of the Eucharist" in which God chnages the substance of bread and wine into Christ's Body and Blood while leaving the accidental properties of the bread and wine untouched.
Five new members were inducted into the League by making the promises of faith in Christ, faithfulness to daily prayer, attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days, regular confession, and personal conversion. Afterwards the entire assembly renewed their baptismal promises.
The evening ended, appropriately in the light of the evening's talk, in the Chapel for a period of exposition and silent adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. After praying for the Holy Father and joining in the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, the group adjourned until next month's meeting.
The League of St. Michael the Archangel is open to all boys who have made (or will make this year) their First Holy Communion.
Members must be willing to commit to the ideals of the League and to seriously consider the priestly vocation as a life choice. Dads are invited and encouraged to participate in all events. For more information call Fr. Bean at 798-5326 or email him through this website.
