Nine members of Knights of Columbus 10567 and two of their wives celebrated Read Across America Day on March 2, 2017 by volunteering their time to read to students at Adamsville Elementary School.

Read Across America Day is on March 2nd which is Dr. Seuss's birthday. Schools across America had programs through the week to encourage children to read and foster a love of books.

The Knights read to each of the 17 classes at Adamsville. The Council purchased and donated the books to the school and presented each child with a commemorative bookmark. The program was well received by the staff and students. Susan Remick is principal of Adamsville and gave the group a tour of the school prior to the event

Thanks to the following Knights who took part: Doug Blanchard, Anthony Brooklere, Larry Cannon, Mike Cochrane, Gerald Kiker, Ronnie Muro, Pete Parrish, Todd Wellborn and Father Vernon Huguley. Special thanks to two wives who joined the Knights to read: Ellen Cannon and Debbie Muro.

The project was headed by Past Grand Knight Ronnie Muro. He said, "I had participated in a Reading Day when I worked at Protective Life and have been wanting to organize one for our Knights. It was a great day and I think it was important to have our men present to the children. We touched the lives of over 300 kids in that short time. We're looking forward to doing something again in the future."
