Fourth Degree Knight Jon Karch has been honored as Knight of the Year by Council 10567 for fraternal year 2015 - 2016.
Jon was recognized at Awards Day on Sunday, June 19 at the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick.
Jon grew up in West End and Blessed Sacrament parish. He and his wife Linda were married there in 1972.
Jon and Linda came to St. Patrick from St. Joseph more than 20 years ago and found a home. Linda knew Sister Maura from St. Joseph and Sister asked her to be a Faith Formation teacher. And who could say no to Sister Maura?
“Our kids were in the process of leaving home during that time,” Jon said. “And that’s when we started going to St. Patrick.”
An electrician for more than 47 years, Jon is now retired – but from work, not from church. He and Linda have five children and nine grandchildren.
Jon, who is now a 4th Degree Knight, joined the Knights of Columbus in 2012 after a relentless recruiting effort by Larry Cannon. “Larry stayed after me for more than a year,” Jon said. “Since I’ve joined I have really enjoyed it.”
Jon epitomizes the word “service” and is an example for all Knights and Catholics to follow. This past year he has been called on many times for specific jobs or tasks and he has always responded. Jon is one of those people, and we have many at St. Patrick, who does so much work behind the scenes. And he does it without acknowledgement or recognition.
Council 10567 is proud to have Jon Karch as our Knight of the Year for fraternal year 2015-2016.
