The 2008 Lenten Day of Service will be held on Saturday, March 8 and volunteers are needed for the day-long event.
Planning is currently underway under the direction of Phillip Troha. Work tasks will be identified in all areas of the Church and all volunteers will be assigned to a work team to complete those tasks.
The Lenten Day of Service is designed as a day of unselfish giving to the church in the spirit of Lent. Work will begin around 8 a.m. and lunch will be provided. Father Gray Bean will also say Mass at the Grotto before lunch.
Work will be done in the following areas:
Main sanctuary - general cleaning, polishing and organization
St. Joseph Hall - organization and cleaning in kitchen and main hall area
Conference Room - prganization and cleaning
Family Life Center - cleaning of classrooms, SPIRIT room and Knights of Columbus room
Grounds - collection of leaves/straw; cutting and removal of dead trees; general pruning; revitalization of garden including cleaning and planting of new flowers and trees
Father Gray Bean shared his thoughts about previous Lenten Days of Service: "For me the really incredible thing about the day is to see so many generations working together...small children, youth and young adults, middle agers and old timers all getting together to make a concrete investment in the Church. The whole day is characterized by joy. This always seems to be the fruit of service."
You can sign up to participate in the St. Patrick narthex or by contacting Phillip Troha.
