The League of St. Michael the Archangel, a boy's club for priestly vocation, had their monthly meeting on Thursday, January 17 in the St. Joseph Hall. The theme of the meeting was discernment, or, "How do I know what God wants me to do?". As usual, the meeting began with an  excellent meal for a cold night...homemade chili, provided by our church Secretary. The boys and dads then gathered under the watchful eye of St. Joseph and St. Michael for a discussion on discernment of a life's vocation. Part of this discussion focused on imagining yourself in a particular vocation, particularly as a priest. To aid in this, Fr. Bean let any boy who so desired to "dress up" in a Roman collar and a black sports coat. It was all in good fun and the boys enjoyed this part of the discussion.

The important points of the discussion were:

  • asking not "What do I want to do?" but "What does God want me to do?"
  • the importance of prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
  • Listening for God's voice, especially after receiving Holy Communion
  • Using your imagination...that is, imagining yourself as a priest
  • Getting to know what a priest does
  • paying attention to the people and circumstances of your life
  • realizing your own gifts, desires, and abilities
  • developing an unfailing faith and trust in God

The League of St. Michael meets once a month and is open to all boys who have made their first Communion. Dads are encouraged to attend with their sons. All meetings are announced in the church bulletin and on the website. For more information please visit our section under "Organizations" on this site or telephone the church office at 798-5326.
