Marking the anniversary of the Supreme Court's infamous Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortions in the United States, more than 1,000 people gathered at Brother Bryan Park on Southside on Saturday, January 20 to pray and march for an end to abortion.
It was a stirring and inspirational rally as people from all Christian denominations gathered to pray and protest the killing of innocent human beings.
In an emotional address to the audience, Sanctity of Life Ministries Director Jim Pinto said he looked forward to the day when all of the abortion clinics in the Birmingham area would be closed for good. Pinto was part of a program that featured testimonies from women who have had abortions speaking on how their abortions have adversely affected their lives.
After the program, bells were rung 47 times with each ring representing one million of the more than 47 million babies killed since Roe vs. Wade went into effect.
Some 1,3 million babies are aborted each year in the United States and there were 11,211 abortions in Alabama in 2005.
