What Are Chrismons?

News Image
Did you know that the ornaments on our trees in the Sanctuary are called Chrismons? Chrismon means monogram of Christ and each one has a particular meaning from the life of Christ and salvation history. Our Chrismons were made by the women of the parish a number of years ago. You may notice that they are white and gold. White is the liturgical color of Christmas and the Gold signifies the kingship of Christ just as the Gold of the Magi. In the narthex you will find a list of all the Crismons and their meaning. When you take your children up to see the Nativity scene take a copy of the Chrismon list and help your child find the symbol while reading the description and meaning to them. Happy Christmas to each of you.
